The economic crises, bank collapses, stock market falling, can be quite a scary way to start a new year. It seems that this generation has never seen an economy in such a desperate state. However I have resolved to build a small nest egg to act as a cushion in case of a small family emergency. I'm going to save $1,000 cash as my New Year's Resolution. This seems like a tough undertaking when you're recovering from all of the expenses surrounding Christmas. The following are five ways in which I plan to accomplish this task.
1. I plan to take any tax return that I may receive and pay off a small debt that will save me money in the coming year. This small debt could be a credit card bill, a furniture payment, or any other monthly payment that may save $20-50 dollars a month. You may ask why not take $1,000 of the tax return put it into savings? Well by using this money to pay off this debt, I will save money in the long run from incurred interest. After I have paid off this debt, I'm going take the money every month that equals what the monthly payment was and put it in the kitty. This money will grow quickly.
2. There is another way to help save $1,000 in the New Year. Every evening when I come home, I'm going to take all of the change that I have in my pocket and place it into an old jar or container. I'm going to wait till this jar fills to the top and roll the change into rollers. I believe that I will find myself surprised to find out how fast this money can accumulate. After the jar is full I'm going to roll all of this change, then take it and put it into the kitty.
3. Another way to help save is a garage sale. A garage sale will help me accomplish two tasks at the same time. While I'm making money I am also making my wife happy by cleaning out storage space. Often times the items that you can sell in a garage sale is things that are laying in the storage shed, garage or attic that you never plan on using again anyway.
4. I also plan on increasing the deductible on my vehicle insurance. By increasing your deductible on your insurance plan, you can lower your monthly or bi-yearly premiums significantly. Again you must calculate these savings and commit them to the savings plan. This could equal $50-100 dollars every six months. Remember every penny counts.
5. The last way that I plan to save $1,000 is by working is by selling scrap gold. Scrap gold is any pieces of broken jewelry that does not have any sentimental value to owner. I have in the past sold old rings that don't fit anymore and broken necklaces. The way that you sell them is to become involved on Ebay. You take a photo of the jewelry on a set of scales to confirm the weight and post the scrap gold on Ebay. I always just start my reserve price at around $19.99. It will surprise you how much others value your gold that you never plan on using again. I have made hundreds of dollars on this technique in the past. The price of gold had been on the increase but has settled down again. However gold will always hold value. After all our monetary system is based insured and backed with gold bouillon.
